Healthy Easter Treats

Ditch the chocolate eggs this Easter and make these little beauties for a healthier Easter.

They are healthier than even dark chocolate alone.Cacao powder is made by cold-pressing unroasted cocoa beans. This process keeps the enzymes in the cocoa and removes the fat (cacao butter). Cocoa looks the same but it's not. Cocoa powder is raw cacao that has been roasted at high temperatures.

Raw cacao powder is thought to contain 300 different chemical compounds and has almost four times the antioxidant power of dark chocolate. It also contains protein, calcium, carotene, thiamin, riboflavin, magnesium, sulphur, flavonoids, and essential fatty acids.

These little beauties were very easy to make.

In a small pan put

  • 2 tbsp cacao powder,

  • 2tbsp maple syrup,

  • 2tbsp extra virgin coconut oil,

  • 1 tbsp nut butter,

  • 2-3 drops vanilla extract.

  1. Melt on a low heat until a smooth liquid.

  2. Place in silicon moulds and place in the freezer for 20 minutes.

  3. Voilà there you have it. Everyone in my household loved them.

Maple syrup is higher in nutrients than sugar and has a lower GI.

Coconut oil is good for the gut. It contains caprylic acid which is a good anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral, so helps to get rid of nasties in the gut that cause all sorts of gut issues.

Nuts are full of protein and essential fats which help you stay fuller longer, so they make a great little snack.

You could swap the vanilla extract for peppermint oil, orange oil, or any natural flavouring.
